Hello to everyone at EnMasse!

I've already made a few posts, so perhaps this introduction isn't necessary.

Anyways: My name is Donna. I tend to go by my real name because thinking up a fake one is too much work. I'm a 4th year student at the University of Alberta (on the five year plan!) with a major in Women's Studies and a minor in German (I know, quite the mix).

I moved to Edmonton about 3 and a 1/2 years ago from Manitoba and have lived all over the prairies my entire life (including Saskatchewan). I'm socially progressive but tend to have conservative leanings on some issues (capital punishment, military, gun control, etc).

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to discussing a variety of issues on this forum. From what I've seen, this is a very positive and friendly environment, and that is a very rare attribute in the forum-world. Not to mention, and excuse my nationalism, it's Canadian, eh! Y'all (insert snicker) seem like an interesting bunch. Smile

Welcome, Donna! I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here... we are rather an ... interesting group!

Hi Donna. We're a quite diverse group, so you'll probably find people that you agree with and disagree with on every issue (with the possible exception of capital punishment Wink ). Anyway, welcome.

And you don't have to be excused for the nationalism, some of us are patriots*, as you can see from my avatar. Mr. Green

* For anyone concerned: I may be a patriot, but I'm going for the Colts tonight against New England. Peyton Manning needs a Super Bowl.

Welcome Donna!

As has been pointed out, you will likely find at least some agreement on most issues here. And do check out the TAT (the Today's Active Topics link in the upper right corner). It's very handy for keeping track of what's going on.

Welcome to EM, Donna!

It will great to hear your perspectives on the prairies... We can also use a few more prairie folks around here. Wink

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'm sure you'll all be seeing me around here a lot. When I'm not drowning in work, school, or exams and pretending I have a social life (and with the previous three, that's almost impossible), I'm posting on forums. Yay internet!

No, I'm not from Lister. I live in the West End, near the WEM. I've heard many bad stories about Lister; it doesn't have a very good reputation. Wink

And no again, I didn't go to the Layton thing. I didn't even know about it, but I'm not sure I would have gone anyway. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the NDP, though Layton is definitely a well-spoken politician. He's probably one of the better party leaders in Canada, in my opinion!

Are the Bears the U of A team, or are you referring to the Chicago Bears?

U of A Golden Bears, I b'lieve.

(Which incidentally, is supported by U of A alumni, rather than sucking much-needed funds away from academic programs; why aren't *all* schools required to do this?!)
