Dear EnMassists,
We were elected for a three month term, which is now rapidly coming to a close. So it's time for ... drum roll ... another moderator election!
We're proposing a nomination period from now until midnight, August 29 (one week) and a voting period from August 30 to midnight September 5.
If you'd like to nominate yourself, please do so in this thread, so our Chief-Electoral-Officer-aka-Steve-Techno-God can track them.
You can also start another thread if you like for any discussion on campaign promises, questions from your constituency, endorsements, and so on.
Let the fun begin!

| I'm also running again. I originally said I wasn't going to be able to, past September, but it's been a pleasure for the last month or so to moderate EnMasse, and not stressful at all! |

There's a Charles Wells IPA that's in most of the Ontario Beer Stores, I think ... There also used to be a Wellington County IPA, as I recall, which I vaguely remember fondly.
The Beer Store: Charles Wells IPA
I notice it's now called "IPA," not India Pale Ale. Ha. |

I intend to vote for the re-election of our three current global mods (remember though I like IPA) however I would like to reiterate my nomination of Amy as forum mod for the Education and Youth Issues forum.
I would also like to nominate Simon Vallee, al-Qa'bong, Clog-boy, VOTD, Heywood, WCT, and Heph as forum mods for whichever forums they wish to moderate, and would also like to nominate Senor Magoo as mod for the sarcasm forum.
PS Actually I would like to nominate Magoo as forum mod for the Banter forum. _________________ Thinking is so overrated. |

| The best thing the moderators did during their term of office was go on vacation. It really defused a tense situation and set the stage for the minimalist moderation that has continued since their return. It was a brilliant master stroke. |

Much as I'm sure we'd like to take credit for a master stroke (and I have a dirty mind, so I'm assuming you meant the clean version of that!), it was more out of self-preservation than anything else ...
But in retrospect it worked out very well, and it certainly gave us a pointer regarding the lower level of moderation we should have been doing. In spite of how we were deeply hurt that EnMasse seemed to do better without us ... |

In order for us to have global mod continuity should we stagger the terms this time - say a 5 month term for the global mod who comes first, a 4 month term for the global mod who comes second, and a 3 month term for the global mod who comes third.
That would effectively mean that we would be voting for one global mod once a month beginning in three months. Isn't democracy grand, eh! _________________ Thinking is so overrated. |

Actually, I was considering suggesting just switching the whole thing to a six-month term. I think having elections all the time is perhaps a bit of overkill. But hey, if you like elections, that's the way to go!
Staggering terms, while it makes a lot of sense on paper, might not be the best either, because it takes a little while to shake down a team in terms of approach and moderating style ... She says, ouch, from all the slapping upside the head, ouch, we did to each other, ouch, at the beginning. Kidding!
Not to be dissing your idea, of course, LCG. Here, have an IPA. Have two. |

I would support extending mod terms as well. This would probably be yet another thing to have to go to a formal vote in the polling booth though. _________________ "Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear." - Thomas Jefferson |

What about term limits? Say, no more than 2 consecutive terms as moderator. That way no one can get too complacent, power hungry or burnout! _________________ I want to be challenged and made to think before speaking, not talked down to and treated as a child. |

I like the idea of 6-month terms for the mods. Maybe we could elect mods for 6 months, but they have the option of stepping down after 3 if they find it too stressful or time-consuming or whatever. If they don't announce a decision to step down after 3 months, then it will be understood that they are committing to the next 3 months as well. _________________ and on that note... |

I was under the impression that the moderators could step down at any time if they wanted to. Nobody can force a moderator to keep on moderating if they don't want to.
On the six month terms for mods, I'm in favour. Moderator elections every three months seems like overkill. |

So do we have consensus for 6 month terms for our global mods, but staggered as opposed to staggering, eh! . If so do we still need to vote on it?
