bonjour,

I wish I could speak French, but I can't. But I'm working on it. Will rent French movies with sub titles as per lagatta's suggestion.

But in the mean time, can someone please tell me what this video link is all about in France. http://www.fdesouche.com/index.php?2006/05/01/60-exclusif-agression...

A person sent it to me, and it's meant to upset me, and it's working. They are hassling me about bad things happening in out of control socialist France with the recent protests there. I don't understand who is abusing whom in this report.

merci

The "La Politique du Franco-Forum" thread is about the rules of this forum.

I've split this and moved it here, if you can find a more appropriate title, please edit your post to change the name. I will check the video (from the bit I've seen it's rather harsh to watch) and try to tell you what's happening.

Okay, because the video isn't loading properly due to my connection being an ass, from what I understand from the site "François Desouche", and the comments there, it's a French nationalist site, and that video is basically to get people angry at Arabs, it's supposed to demonstrate how "Arabs are attacking French people in their own land". It's ethnic nationalist propaganda.

François Desouche is supposed to be a name but it has a meaning. François is the old way of saying Français, Frenchman (so I'm called Jean-François, meaning my name is John the Frenchman Razz), Desouche means "of origin", "of stock", it often denotes a certain "racial purity", a Frenchman "de souche" would be a straight descendant of the Gauls and so forth. Further proof of this notion of racially pure descendence from the Gauls, check out François Desouche's profile, in where he's a member of the "Gaulois" group.

On that site, there's articles advocating bringing back the death penalty, refusing the right to vote to immigrants "because they'll just vote themselves in and refuse ethnically French people in", critics of multiculturalism and of state interventions in favour of non-ethnically French people, basically. They keep referring to themselves as "patriots." I have trouble telling if they pretend to be right or left though. In my opinion it's far-right, but they could be a racist wing of the Parti Socialiste, I have no clue.

In the comments to that video, you had lots of comments saying how they should get rid of the Arabs in France and so forth.

Nationalism is on the rise again, it's rather sad.

ETA: Yeah, after reading more on the site, it's apparently racist socialists... There's this disturbing trend to merge socialism and nationalism, I have a few other articles on the subject, somewhere, and of course it's all too easy to make the association: National Socialism, anyone? So I guess François Desouche is a French Nazi page. Except this time they're hating Muslims instead of Jews.

Reading on the Wikipedia page, and keeping in mind the comments made on the "dangers of giving the right to vote to immigrants", I came across this:
Quote:
Further, [Hitler] saw democracy as a destabilizing force because it placed power in the hands of ethnic minorities who, he claimed, "weakened and destabilized" the Empire by dividing it against itself.

That's tremendous, Le JF, merci beaucoup. Yes, it is sad that nationalism is on the rise over there in general. I was reading about something similar occuring in the Czech and Slovak republics with governments and ethnic majorities shunning "Gypsies"(those who speak Romany) because they seek citizenship and "power" associated with it. Like basic human rights etc. Oh well. Once again, thanks Le JF. Great site, btw Very Happy

Viva la revolucion!

Connected to this topic, I recommend a film made in the 1990's in France which is about three marginal youth who make their own statement about anti-racism. It is called "La haine", information here.
