The husband of Belleville police Chief Cory McMullan admitted Monday to beating her and breaking her arm in a jealous rage over "unfounded" suspicions she was cheating on him with the mayor of the eastern Ontario town.

David McMullan, in an agreed statement of fact, said it was "irrational" for him to think his wife was having an affair.

McMullan, 53, had been facing two assault charges and pleaded guilty Monday to one count of assault causing bodily harm.


She has earned respect for speaking out
