Last year around Christmas time, the question of a Christmas break came up on babble. I'm of the understanding that babble generally shuts down for Christmas, but the only Christmas during which I was a babbler had an election, so babble babbled on. I've started a poll on the subject to gauge how people feel about it. If we decided to close down for Christmas, how would we decide when and for how long?

Did babble not close down last year? When I saw the title of this thread I flashed back and thought it had. Oh well. Babble also has paid mods, who probably have to show for duty, which is not nice to ask of someone.

Do our mods have to show for duty?

Bottom line, I don't think there is a reasone we should close for Xmas.

I don't think we need to close down for Xmas. Personally, I will only be away for 4 days... but will have access to a computer. I don't know about Tehanu and Cartman, though.

I voted no, because I'd certainly miss EM, but if the mods or our grand techie benefactor think it's needed, I wouldn't begrudge them the time off.

I am against an X-mas break, particularly if it is formulated as a Christmas Break. If we do that, then we should also have a break for the major holidays of every other religion, be it Channukah or Diwali or what-have-you.

Ok, winter break. I know the Xmas thing was going to come up eventually.
I'm still against it.

Then again, I'm against making any special consideration for any religion. Mr. Green

Er, a break? I thought this was going to be some kind of existentialist thread about the meaning of the season and whether or not Chistmas or other holiday seasons were a Force for Good or a Force for Evil.

I mean, the world will not come crashing to a halt if the moderators are so stuffed with flesh of fowl and dead cranberries that we don't delete a spambot, right? Besides, everyone will be filled with goodwill towards all men (and women and suchlike) so peace with reign. Happy Dance

And if there's a tech problem, well, I guess we spend a little time with our families. Mr. Green

Oh, and I don't like Christmas. Just for the record. Does anyone, really???

And wait! It's still November. No Christmas until December. Pleeeze.
