I want to "buy" a farm animal to donate to a family in India (in my Dad's name), but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do it. Can anyone give me a name of a good charity that does this?

Thanks in advance. Very Happy

Diane, I used Heifer International before for xmas gifts:

They're based in Arkansas and loosely affiliated with a religious group but they seem like good people. (For some reason I had a glitch and needed to chat with them by phone. Was impressed by how helpful and kind they were.)

Plan Canada (used to be Foster Parents Plan) also has a similar donation program:

So, I went to Plan Canada (at sparqui's suggestion) and did a donation of literacy to two women in the developing world. As my dad & mum gave me the love of reading as a gift, I thought dad would appreciate this "pay it forward" gift...

Not that it would make a difference with donations of farm animals, but FYI, Plan Canada was one of signatories to the letter backing Harper's anti-choice maternal health initiative. See my post here.

I was appalled by the number of what I consider respected, secular aid orgs that were signatories, fork.

Yeah, I think it`s difficult to find one that`s pure. And as I said, it`s not going to make much of a difference with farm animal donations. I guess I was adding that information for people to consider if they were weighing programs from several different organizations that otherwise appear equal.
