Here's a thread to discuss municipal elections in not-so-major Ontario centres.

To start, our own Scott Piatkowski is taking another crack at Kitchener city council.

Unfortunately, Scott was not successful. Sad

Hurricane Hazel rides again:

Quote:
With 224 of 231 polls reporting, McCallion had 76 per cent of the vote. Former city councillor Dave Cook, her chief rival, had just eight per cent.

McCallion, 89, is Canada's oldest mayor and has presided over Ontario's third-largest city, just west of Toronto, since 1978.

Her re-election bid was marred by a judicial inquiry into her involvement in a failed $14.4-million land deal between the municipality and a development company partly owned by her son, Peter McCallion.

I would imagine that even a photograph of Hazel shovelling development money into the trunk of her boy's car wouldn't stop this personality cult.
She's got the Marion Barry gene or something.

Yeah, Hazel is gonna have to die in office. She's leaving it in a hearse or not at all.

Good for Hamilton:

Quote:
In Hamilton, one-term mayor Fred Eisenberger, who won office in 2006 by the narrowest margin in city history (452 votes), was turfed in favour of downtown councillor Bob Bratina. In a three-way race that included former mayor Larry Di Ianni, Bratina triumphed with a campaign focused on poverty, seniors and the city's waterfront. Bratina had 37 per cent to Di Ianni's 29 per cent and Eisenberger's 27 per cent, with 206 of 207 polls reported.

Paging thwap and ephemeral....

So Hazel was in conflict of interest when she helped her boy make himself some munnee.

Watch for the citizens of Mississauga to lobby to have ethics laws repealed, retroactively.
