Polls are closed and results are starting to come in. The very earliest results (just a few polls reporting in each riding) have:
PC: 49% - 39 seats leading
Lib: 38% - 15 seats leading
NDP: 8% - 1 seats leading
Grn: 5% - 0 seats leading _________________ "Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear." - Thomas Jefferson |

Well, that was a disappointing night. The final result is a PC majority government.
PC: 42 seats (76.36% of the seats) and 48.87% of the vote, up 1.37%
Lib: 13 seats (23.64% of the seats) and 34.43% of the vote, down 13.27%
NDP: 0 seats (0% of the seats) and 10.37% of the vote, up 5.27%
Green: 0 seats (0% of the seats) and 4.53% of the vote, up 4.53%
PA: 0 seats (0% of the seats) and 1.18% of the vote, up 1.18%
Other: 0 seats, 0.61% of the vote
The seat where the NDP came the closest was St. John Harbour, where the PC won with 1334 votes, or 30.66%. The Liberal was second with 1325 votes, or 30.45% and the NDP was third with 1202 votes, or 27.63%. If the leader had run here, rather than in Tracadie-Sheila, the NDP might well have won the seat. His seat was really not close, but it was one of the best showings province-wide in terms of NDP vote share. Duguay got 32.26% of the vote, but the PC got 48.78%, a gap of 1290 votes. The NDP also did decently in St. John East, where they finished third, but only 799 votes behind the victorious PC. Duguay's riding is the only one as far as I can tell where the NDP came second, but those two St. John ridings provide some possibilities for the 2014 election, and Tracadie-Sheila could be in reach for Duguay if the PCs have become unpopular by the time the next election rolls around. _________________ "Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear." - Thomas Jefferson |

| Wayne Dryer was a strong local candidate in Saint John Harbour. I dealt Roger Duguay would have polled so well. |

I'll defer to your local knowledge. _________________ "Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear." - Thomas Jefferson |

| The other aspect of saint john Habour is the fact it had the lowest voter turnout in the province 52%. I hope Wayne will run again next time. Parachute candidates tend not to do well in Saint John. |
